Hand marks versus auto-drawn trend lines

Why our intensives still insist on pencil worksheets even when every platform offers automatic swing tools.

Automatic swing tools are tidy. They are also opinionated in ways that stay hidden until two traders compare screens. One platform anchors on wicks; another prefers closes; a third smooths micro-swings you actually traded against.

What hand marking forces

When you place the pencil yourself, you must decide whether a spike counts. That decision is the skill. In the intensive, disagreements become audible: eight people, eight slightly different highs, one conversation about criteria. Software would have hidden the argument behind a default.

A practical compromise

Use your platform for replay and measurement. Use paper — or a blank annotation layer — for the structure story you will defend in review. If the two disagree, trust the story you can explain, then adjust the tool settings later.

We are not anti-software. We are anti-outsourcing the judgement that technical analysis training is supposed to build.
